Basic English
This course is designed to immerse students in literature and writing. It is especially useful for students who have not passed the Ohio Graduation Test and/or need to make up an English credit.
English III
Students will read fiction and non-fiction selections applying reading, writing, listening, speaking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Assignments and projects will develop language arts skills and will have a broad application to the world of today’s business and technology. Students will prepare a Career Passport and learn related computer skills.
English IV
Students will explore a variety of print materials noteworthy for excellence of style and content. They will continue to expand their competencies in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will update and finalize the Career Passport and will continue to develop skills in the use of the computer as a productivity, information, and presentation tool.
Accelerated English III
The primary focus of this course is to prepare students for the requirements of college entry-level reading and writing. Literature and novels are studied as stimuli for writing. Students will prepare a Career Passport and enhance related computer skills.
Accelerated English IV
Students successfully completing Accelerated English IV receive a foundation for college entry-level language arts. Students will learn to refine and edit their own writing and continue to explore various literary forms as models for effective communication. The Career Passport will be updated and finalized.
College Freshman Composition/Communication II & III (college credit available)
This dual credit course is offered in partnership with Hocking College on Eastland and Fairfield campuses. Students who meet the qualification requirements may enroll in this dual academic course. Successful students will earn credit for English 12 as well as 6-quarter hours of credit from Hocking College. Writing as a process that involves organization, development, prewriting, and revision is emphasized. Prerequisite: B average in the previous college-prep course and placement at the appropriate college level on the COMPASS test.
