Earth and Space Science

Develop specialized content to extend connections, depth, and detail of the major concepts and principles of earth and space sciences, astronomy, meteorology, geology, and natural resources.

Biology

This laboratory course studies life, emphasizing the basic concepts and principles of biology. A survey of both the plant and animal kingdoms will be presented, with an emphasis on the structure, function, and life histories of organisms. Students will be involved in a variety of projects during the year.

Advanced Biology

An advanced high school course that contributes to competencies beyond the Ohio Graduation Test. This course develops specialized content to extend connections, depth, and detail of biology, including concepts in anatomy, physiology, ecology, behaviors, evolution, genetics, cell biology, microbiology, diversity, growth, and human biology.

Anatomy and Physiology (ECC)

Study the structure (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the human body with a specialized focus on the head and neck. Topics to be addressed include the skeletal, muscular, integumentary, and nervous systems.

Human Anatomy and Physiology (FCC)

A study of the human body and how it functions. Anatomy is studied systemically, going through all systems of the human body; skeletal, muscular, nervous, integumentary, cardiovascular, urinary, reproductive, digestive, respiratory, endocrine, and sensory. Students can take either a college preparatory course in anatomy or a general anatomical study. Both courses involve laboratory dissection to study each system.

The Human Organism

(FCC campus only—college credit available)
This dual credit, introductory college human anatomy course is offered in partnership with Hocking College. Students who meet the qualification requirements will earn high school credit for science (advanced biology) as well as 3-quarter hours of credit (BIOS 112) from Hocking College. Prerequisite: B average in the previous college prep science course and placement at the appropriate college level on the COMPASS test.

Physics

This advanced course involves the study of motion and energy, with emphasis on kinetics, gravity, momentum, potential and kinetic energy, electricity, forces, sound waves, and modern physics. This course will prepare students for post- high school physics courses as well as an understanding of the world around them.

Introduction to Chemistry (FCC)

A foundation in chemistry concepts and chemistry laboratory skills. Topics include: metric system, phase and chemical changes, chemical reactions, periodic table, and others. (This course does not satisfy the chemistry component of an articulation agreement).

Chemistry

Study the composition, structure, properties of, and changes in matter, including the accompanying energy phenomena.

College Chemistry

(ECC campus only—college credit available)
This dual enrollment course is offered in partnership with Ohio University-Lancaster. Topics include in-depth study of inorganic, organic, analytical, physical, and biochemistry. Successful students will earn a high school science credit as well as 4-quarter hours of credit from OU-L. Prerequisite: Must be concurrently enrolled in College Pre-Calculus or College Calculus.

Advanced Chemistry

(ECC campus only—college credit available)
An advanced high school course that contributes to competencies beyond the Ohio Graduation Test. This course develops specialized content to extend connections, depth, and detail of chemistry, including concepts in inorganic, organic, analytical, physical, and nuclear chemistry. Successful students will earn a high school science credit as well as 4-quarter hours of credit from Ohio University-Lancaster. Prerequisite: C or better average in College Chemistry.
