Performing Arts Student Has Eyes Set on Broadway
“It’s really an amazing experience to become someone completely different.”

Reagan Duchesne enjoys wearing many hats, figuratively speaking. The Reynoldsburg senior is involved in her school’s model United Nations program, color guard, SkillsUSA, National Honor Society, the orchestra, choir and was a court attendant at the 2016 Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival.

Her passion, though, is the performing arts. “I think it’s great to find a piece, a play, a musical or even just a song and figure out who the characters are in it and what emotion you are trying to convey.”

The Reynoldsburg high school senior first got a taste for the stage her freshman year, when she saw fliers for the fall play. Her color guard schedule didn’t allow for it, so she waited until spring when auditions for The Music Man were announced. “I auditioned with some random pop song that probably wasn’t the best choice for a musical but I got a call back,” she said. “It was the most exciting thing to happen to me. I thought, ‘if this is as far as I go in the performing arts, that’s amazing.’”

Duchesne was cast in the chorus and got bit by the acting bug. “I just fell completely in love.” She said she worked to improve her acting and singing and returned the following year to audition for Little Women. “I found an actual, real song from a musical to sing and I got the role of Beth.” By then, Duchesne had auditioned and been accepted into Eastland-Fairfield’s Performing Arts program at Reynoldsburg High School and her future was coming together. “I was like, ‘this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.’”

After high school Duchesne plans to pursue a degree in musical theater and wants to one day perform on Broadway.

Reagan Duchesne loves Phantom of the Opera and Hamilton and only gets nervous when performing in front of smaller audiences.
