New leadership hired at Eastland Career Center
The Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools Board of Education approved the hiring of Jackie Kuffel and Dwight Carter as the new director and assistant director, respectively, of Eastland Career Center at their regular board meeting on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Both will begin their new positions effective August 1, 2019.  

“We are excited to have both Jackie and Dwight join our leadership team and to lead Eastland Career Center into a new chapter,” said Bonnie Hopkins, superintendent. “Eastland Career Center has outstanding programs and instructors, and we look forward to Jackie and Dwight bringing their experience and leadership to continue to offer students outstanding career-technical and academic opportunities.”

Kuffel has spent the past four years as a career-technical director at Tolles Career & Technical Center in Plain City, Ohio. She brings a total of 16 years of administrative experience with her having also previously served as principal at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center in Canfield, Ohio, for nine years, and as the middle school principal in the Struthers City School District in Struthers, Ohio, for two years. 

Kuffel earned her bachelor’s degree in social studies education from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minn., and received her master’s in educational administration from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Ill. She co-authored “Turning Points in Middle Schools: Strategic Transitions for Educators” in 1996. In 2011, she was honored by the Ohio Association of Career-Technical Educators with the Pacesetter Award.

“I am thankful for the amazing opportunity to work for Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools,” offered Kuffel. “It is an honor to be a part of a strong career-technical community focused on providing engaging learning opportunities where students grow and prepare for their futures.” 

Carter is returning to work in public education after spending the past year in the private sector as an effectiveness coach for Dynamix LLC. Prior to his work with Dynamix, Carter spent four years as principal of New Albany High School in New Albany, Ohio, and nearly six years as the principal of Gahanna Lincoln High School in Gahanna, Ohio. Both schools are partnering districts with Eastland-Fairfield. He received his bachelor’s degree in social studies education from Wittenburg University and his master’s in educational leadership from Ashland University.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the team at Eastland Career Center. I look forward to working alongside staff and students to ensure we create the conditions for all students to succeed,” Carter said.
