Fifty years ago, a gallon of gasoline cost $.34/gallon, a movie ticket cost just $1.50 and the average cost of a new home was just under $15,000. Richard Nixon was president and McDonald's debuted the Big Mac. A lot has changed in 50 years.
As we embark on our golden milestone, we look look forward to our future progress and look back at our accomplishments from the past.
1968
Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools is proud to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2018. The district opened its doors in September 1968 as Eastland Vocational Center after several years of planning and cooperation among five school districts--Reynoldsburg, Whitehall, Groveport-Madison, Canal Winchester and Jefferson Local (Gahanna).
When it opened, Eastland had an enrollment of 500 students, including tuition-paying students from Bexley, Westerville, Pickerington, Southwest Licking, and Licking Heights school districts. In the three years that followed, Teays Valley, Pickerington, New Albany-Plain Local School Districts joined the Eastland jointure.
1980's
In the 1980s, Amanda-Clearcreek, Berne Union, Bloom-Carroll, Fairfield Union, Liberty Union-Thurston, Hamilton Local, and Walnut Township Local School Districts joined the Eastland family.
In 1987, Fairfield Career Center opened its doors in Carroll, after a year and a half and almost five million dollars of construction.
1988 was the year Eastland's Adult Education Full-Service Center began and the Hamilton Local School District joined the jointure.
1990's
The district's central office and adult education offices relocate to a new facility on Amalgamated Place.
In 1995, Eastland's first satellite programs open; Performing Arts at Reynoldsburg High School and Environmental Science at New Albany High School. Two years later, the Architecture/Construction Management program formed at Gahanna Lincoln High School.
2000's
The district ushers in the 21st Century by changing its name to Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools and began a seven-year, multi-phase renovation project that completely remodeled several of Eastland's program labs, including welding, electronics and commercial art, as well as the school cafeteria and Business Academy. Fairfield Career Center's cosmetology lab got a makeover in 2005.
The Marketing/Logistics Management program at Groveport Madison High School opened its school store, Cruiser Corner, opened in 2006.
