Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools welcomed the kickoff of the 2026 COSI Science Festival on Tuesday, April 28, at Fairfield Career Center.

As part of the festival launch, Fairfield Career Center juniors participated in Passport to STEAM, an interactive event designed to immerse students in hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics experiences.

Students heard from special guests, including Dr. Frederic Bertley, President and CEO of COSI, and astronaut Aymette “Amy” Medina Jorge, who completed a spaceflight aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard NS-32 mission in May 2025. Their presentations encouraged students to think beyond traditional career pathways and explore future opportunities in STEM fields.

Nearly 20 local business partners also joined the event, leading engaging activities and demonstrations that gave students the opportunity to connect STEM concepts to real-world careers and industries.

The day concluded with a crowd-favorite Elephant Toothpaste science demonstration, bringing an exciting end to the event.

“This event is all about giving students the chance to experience STEM in a hands-on, meaningful way,” said Cherrelle Turner, Coordinator of Business Partnerships & Career Readiness. “By connecting students with industry partners and real-world applications, we hope to spark curiosity and help students see the wide range of opportunities available to them.”

The COSI Science Festival continues to bring communities together across central Ohio while inspiring the next generation of innovators, creators and problem-solvers.
